Debt Relief Grants Offered by the Government

By Michel B.

If you are in debt and considering a consolidation loan you might want to think again and look for a grant instead. Grants are not as common as loans but they are available to individuals and there are grants that are specifically for debt relief. If you want to find a way to pay off your debt and meet the qualifications a grant could be the right choice for you. Grants are better than loans as you are not required to pay them back.

To qualify for a grant you must meet any obligation or requirement of the grant that is set by the government. If you obtain a grant to pay your education debt you may be required to be in school or work in an industry for a specified amount of time to qualify for a grant. You will be required to submit proof of your student or work status for a specified amount of time.

Grant applications for debt relief are reviewed by the Social Service office or other government agency to determine the need of the applicant before awarding the grant. You are required to submit financial information, current income, monthly expenses and all your outstanding debt to be used to determine your eligibility. If it is determined that you qualify you will receive a grant and be able to pay your debts without filing bankruptcy or living with a bad credit record.

Many grants are available to you through programs for small businesses and individuals to pay for education debts, healthcare debts, business startup debt and personal debt. Information is available to you and should be free of charge. If you contact a business or online site and they ask for payment for information you should not do business with that organization.

There are many ways you can find help with paying your debts. From local to federal agencies, organizations are there to help you if you ask. You first should take with the institution or business you owe the debt to and find out if they can offer you any assistance. If you explain your situation you may find that this is the only step you have to take. If they are unable, or are unwilling, to assist you then your next step would be to consult with a consumer credit counselor they offer their services free of charge and will be able to give you many options that you could qualify for to reduce or eliminate your debt worries.
